[ or a morbid one, same thing. he may not be the best wingman, but even scott knows it's probably best not to talk about how excited stiles gets around dead bodies. ]
[Funnily enough Cassie actually already figured that one out so you're golden.]
phew. that's a relief.
[Except not really, because Cassie doubts that Stiles' open mindedness extends to witches and dark magic. But whatever. He only asked her to a dance that is still hypothetical at best, it's not really a proper date-date. So it's fine if he doesn't know.]
anyway, more seriously, i think you're probably right to be concerned. i really could be anybody. is this typical for him?
cool. i liked california, when i lived there. sure is a lot warmer than washington, at any rate.
i live in a small fishing town called chance harbor in the middle of nowhere, washington state. aaand i work part time as a barista and waitress at a cafe. not as cool as working at the vet's, but i can make a mean cup of coffee now!

[ he'd go for the 'yeah my dad sucks too' route, but manners. ]
i know we can make tea out of some of the plants in the gardens. or i think we can. i mean i've made some and i think they're basically the same as stuff back home.
and yeah, it's completely worth it. i think people just take care of their own animals here, but i bet you could get a job at the bar if you wanted to.
hey boy
i know what you mean. sometimes the punches seem more like nuclear bombs, though.
[ aaand, very subtly: ]
do you know someone named stiles?
shhhhh you saw nothing
... and yeah, actually, i do. why?
it's too late i've seen everything
um. he's a friend of mine, i think you guys would get along
[ good save. ]
nooooooooo
no subject
awesome. he's a cool guy, he has a jeep
[ rave reviews. also wait, completely irrelevant. ]
not here, obviously.

[Cassie is making a very weird face at the screen right now.]
sooo you guys are friends from home then, i take it.
no subject
[ for real tho ]
and yeah, i know him pretty well. [ somehow saying they're besties seems kind of overkill for this conversation. ]
have you guys met met or just texted?
[ spoiler: he totally knows the answer. ]
no subject
... hang on, are you vetting me?
1/2
what? no
i didn't even know this was your number
no subject
[ that's actually a deliberate joke. all the same, sorry stiles. ]
[ not here ]

um. no? he doesn't usually ask people out
[ which sounds a lot better than 'he would probably take anybody'. ]
no subject
oh. ok. well then. i guess... i'm flattered.
no subject
no you should be, seriously his standards are ridiculous
[ like, lydia martin ridiculous. but the important thing is that scott's made this totally weird, so- ]
should we maybe start over? i'll be less weird this time, promise. i'll even skip the asking questions about stiles.
[ as if he'll be less weird. but he'll not talk about the not-date, anyway. ]

i'm from california, i used to work at a vet's office.
[ which is the obvious 'your turn' cue. he's better at this when you can see the friendly smile, honestly. it's endearing instead of awkward. ]

i saw that
[ because middle of nowhere means quiet, right. ]
and do we even have coffee here? also working in a vet's office only qualifies as cool if you don't mind looking at a lot of animal poop.
nope
i'm not sure about the coffee, i haven't actually looked.
but it must be worth it, right? the animal poo, i mean. you'd get to take care of everyone's pets for a while.
